car ac blows cold then quits blowing – newly replaced compressor?
I just had the compressor replaced in my 2000 Jeep Cherokee classic and it didn’t fix what the mechanic said the problem was. It blows consistantly for a while (45 minutes – hour) and stays cold, then will suddenly blow hot air. He says it’s not the blower motor since it still blows and suggests it could be the control button not making good connection? That doesn’t make sense to me if the control button isn’t being disturbed when it stops blowing? Thoughts please…..
talked to the mechanic in more details and he said it’s possible that it’s the computer that controls the AC could be malfunctioning. Make more sense -but I don’t want to be “parted” to detah before I fid out what it is!
Well to begin with the ac system has it own function. If the tech who replaced the compressor added oil to it, that can be the problem. To much oil in the ac system is going to cause that. You have a high side and a low side. The low side is cold and the high side is hot. If to much oil in the system it mixes up on the low side which is mainly gas ( freon) so it will not, work the condenser will not be able to cool off the whole system. If it were to be the expansion valve it will never work not even for 1 minute. Just to make sure when it starts blowing hot air stop and check the ac line, the thick one it the low side it should be cold. If it’s hot then too much oil. If its cold you have a vent control problem, vacuum leak or something. The vent is opening to the heater core and closing the evaporator. Hope this helps!!
